6月26日 ウィンザー・ジャクソンパークにて桜植樹祭開催

June 26th Cherry Blossom Trees Planting Ceremony in Jackson Park, Windsor

The ceremony began at 1:00 pm, and at first Mr. Drew Dilkens, Mayor of the City of Windsor, made a speech and introduced several executives and staffs of the city office. Each of them talked some words. Then, Mr. Tsuneo Suzuki, Mayor of Fujisawa, Mr. Kenichiro Matsushita, Chairman of the City Council, and Mr. Takayuki Masuda, Chairman of the City Friendship Committee, gave a cerebration speech.  After the tape cutting, a cloth covered on the root of one of three cherry trees already planted was removed There was a memorial plaque inscribed as a donation from Fujisawa city, and a reporter of local newspaper was shooting the figure that the two mayors are pointing.

A something we had a concern about was Mr. Dilkens’ greetings. Although many Canadians were introduced, Alex Yanoshita and other members of the Canada-Japan Society of Windsor who had enthusiastically promoted to build Japanese garden for 25 years and gathered funds for its purpose were not introduced.  A few years ago David Pepper who made a small hill and wrote himself up to the sign of "Fujisawa-En" in a place away from these three trees. At the same time, the name of Akira Kubota and Nakashima, both of them had passed away, did not go out. There, Hiroshi Naemura, consultant of the Japan Canada Society of Fujisawa gave appreciation words to these people with the permission of the mayor of Windsor.

In addition, a “somei-yoshino” cherry tree had been transplanted to "Fujisawa-En". The tree was one of the twenty cherry trees that had planted 15 years ago in the Gateway Public Park as the donation from the citizens and companies in Ontario.
